Volume 2 February 04, 2008 Issue 4
I wonder how it felt for David; the giant taunts the God of Israel and haunts the people of God. David was offended by the vulgar profanity he heard from Goliath, but he had not experienced the daily humiliation Saul and his army endured for 40 days! I’m sure they had monster—type nightmares as they tried to sleep each evening. On the other hand David’s dreams were of victory dances over the lions and bears he had slain as a shepherd. Rehearsing these battles in his mind and some periodic nostalgic glances at the trophies on his shelf prepared him for one of the biggest challenges to date. That’s the ministry of memory: reassurance in the present and confidence in the future ... Danger’s snare does not scare because God is there!
And He will continue to be there. Recall the word of promise Jesus gave His followers when He left them with the task/ mission to baptize, teach and make disciples? “I will be with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20)
Hints for keeping your spiritual memory sharp:
· try journaling, noting answers to prayer and God’s help in times of trouble, testing, difficulty
· Count your blessings, ‘name them one by one’
· Don’t neglect communion
· Copy out some Scripture verses on post-it notes and place them on your refrigerator, bathroom mirror, above the kitchen sink, on your dashboard
Recall, so as to stall your giants.
Avoid their attack by keeping track!
Have a great week,
Doug
